BURNING PERMITS

OPEN BURNING POLICY
Effective August 1, 1998

Burning permits will only be issued to those presenting a copy of such a permit from the Ohio EPA or Lake County General Health District.

Requests for burning permits must contain the following:
    1.    Location of Burn
    2.    Who is to burn, i.e. resident, contactor, etc.
    3.    What are you going to burn?
    4.    Copy of EPA permit

The Bainbridge Township Fire Department will not issue any burning permits in the restricted area as defined by the Ohio EPA and will issue permits to only homeowners disposing of agricultural waste products or ceremonial fires in the unrestricted area.

Requests for EPA permits must be made to the Air Pollution Control Supervisor at 440-350-2543 of the Lake County General Health District - 33 Mill Street, Painesville, Ohio 44077. The application can be obtained here.

Requests for permits from the Bainbridge Township Fire Department are to be made  in person between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. weekdays at the Fire Station, 17822 Chillicothe Road. 

The following conditions are placed on permits in addition to those by the EPA:
    1.    Burning to be done during daylight hours only.
    2.    Burning to be done a minimum of 50 feet from any structure.
    3.    Burning to be attended at all times with a charged hose line.
    4.    Pile of debris not to exceed 5 feet in diameter x 5 feet in height.
    5.    Should the fire department receive a complaint about the burn, the applicant will be required to extinguish the fire.
    6.    Failure to obtain a permit or to extinguish the fire when ordered to do so could result in prosecution.
    7.    Maximum time on a permit is seven (7) days.
    8.    No materials are to be burned which contain rubber, grease, asphalt or liquid petroleum products.
    9.    Fire is to be set only when atmospheric conditions will readily dissipate contaminants.
